Word comes that Safeway is planning a six-pump setup between FirstBank and Morgan’s Liquor on the northern end of the site.
While the original PUD governing development on the property permits placement of a gas station, University Neighbors, a registered neighborhood organization in the area, has expressed a number of concerns about the proposed new use.
UN board member Liz Ullman told The Profile that her group was concerned with “the loss of 60+ parking spaces” from a frequently crowded lot, how the addition of the station would affect Morgan’s and how increased traffic would impact “an already busy corner.”
Kris Staff, director of Public Affairs for Safeway, said “We have talked with a couple of neighborhood groups, and have another to meet with. The dialogue’s been good and the feedback’s been very helpful. We’re working closely with the city. Roughly, we think we’re looking at September 2012.”
