To do so, Elowe would have to purchase a number of single family homes, raze the structures and have the land rezoned.
Following a meeting with Elowe and Councilman Charlie Brown, Tom Gonnella, president of the University Park Community Council, advised Elowe via email that, “We have worked hard to guide thoughtful development in our neighborhood, and spent nearly 10 years developing our Small Area Plan, which details the vision for our neighborhood as it continues to evolve. It is this plan that keeps us centered with respect to new development.
“With this in mind, we strongly oppose a hotel at that location, and if necessary we will take steps to relentlessly oppose the required zone change. I wish you well in future developments, and look forward to the completion of your current project.”
Councilman Brown told The Profile at press time that “This is a deal that is dead at that location. It’s really not worth talking about.”
