Colorado is known for good music almost as much as it’s known for mountains, fluffy powder, and heavily hopped beers. This great state offers a huge range of phenomenal venues to enjoy live music, each having their own personality, acoustics, and range of musicians who like to play there. We had the good fortune of having his ears blasted with some wild electronic music at Cervantes’ Other Side, here’s what he thought.
The Low Down
Cervantes Other Side is one of the most personal venues I have experienced. What do I mean by personal you ask? Do they require you to explain why your girlfriend left you when you order a drink? No… it’s personal because of the size and the performers who play here. This place doesn’t usually draw big-name acts who are just stopping through Denver on a tour of the country. It’s more about up-and-coming artists who are simply trying to share their music with anyone they can! I’m talking about homegrown artists from the Colorado area like SoDown. He’s a dubstep artist from Boulder who’s just trying to spread his love for music and Cervantes Other Side provides the perfect place to do it!
At full capacity, only 400 people can fit in the close quarters of Cervantes’ Other Side. It’s just big enough to cram in a stage, bar and dance floor which many people might argue is all you really need!! In the back, you will find Magoo’s Pizza Parlor for the late-night munchies that are almost always necessary after a good show. This place never ceases to amaze me with the wild mix of people that it draws to it’s shows. Hippies, hipsters, ravers, dancers and even minors are just some of the people you will inevitably run into while cutting a rug on the dance floor. Here’s a link to Cervantes Calendar so you can see who’s playing in the future.
Cervantes Other Side is located in the Five Points area of Denver on Welton st. To be completely honest it’s not the safest part of Denver, so if you are wandering around the area after the show, be wary and I recommend keeping your wallets, keys, and pizza slice from Magoo’s in a safe place. You can find parking just on the streets around the venue. See the map below, or click on the link under it for a better clue.
