Colorado Cabin Adventures – Grand Lake

Grand Lake, Colorado is located at the end of Trail Ridge Road, one of the most spectacular and scenic drives in Colorado. This high elevation road winds up and down the mountainsides of Rocky Mountain National Park just outside of Estes Park, Colorado. If you choose to take this route, the drive alone is worth your time, but once you arrive in Grand Lake you realize that you’ve stumbled upon a very awesome place. While the small town may only be home to just over 450 full-time residents, it’s a popular summer spot that attracts thousands of visitors each year from all over the country. The lake is actually the largest and deepest natural lake in the state with depths reaching nearly 300 feet! Whether you’re into fishing, boating or just relaxing in a beautiful landscape, Grand Lake is a great place to be.

Grand Lake Colorado Adventure Cabins

I paid a visit to the lake in mid-August to check out the place. Grand Lake is definitely the type of place where you need to stay in a log cabin, so I ended up at a place called Colorado Cabin Adventures. The name alone sounds intriguing as Colorado, cabins and adventures are all great things, so it seemed like a good place to be. I stayed in a log cabin that reminded me of my days playing Lincoln Logs as a kid. It wasn’t just a little house with some wood that was made to look like a cabin, this thing was built to last with some seriously thick logs and everything made out of wood. The inside of the cabin was very comfortable, with all the modern amenities you might need for a mountain lake vacation. However, it is done it such a way that you still feel like you are in a rustic accommodation in the woods which is exactly what I wanted. The cabins are situated right off a nice little river that feeds into Shadow Mountain Lake.

Behind the cabins there are a couple walking paths to scenic little picnic spots on the banks of the lake. If you have the good fortune of paying a visit to this place, definitely take the time to venture out into the lake on a canoe. During my canoe voyage I had a close encounter with two enormous moose who were having a snack right on the edge of the lake and witnessed an incredible amphicar (a car boat) cruising right by me in the lake. The caretakers, Rodney and Andrea are very nice, friendly, and happy to provide you with any recommendations on what to do in Grand Lake. If you’ve ever wondered what life is like for a local in a small, mountain town in Colorado, they will share their experiences with you! In fact, they told us a story about a moose that fell in love (quite literally) with a moose statue in downtown Grand Lake earlier that summer. While there are a huge number of cabins to choose from in the Grand Lake area, Colorado Cabin Adventures provide you with everything you need at a reasonable price and in a laid-back, mountain town kind of way!

Colorado Cabin Adventures are located just off highway 34 on the banks of Shadow Mountain Lake. Please check out the map below for exact directions.
