Weather

Northwest Colorado spans across many square miles, and some of this region is comprised of plains while other areas are foothills of the Rockies or mountain peaks. With this in mind, the temperature and weather conditions will be largely determined by elevation where you are staying. If you choose to stay in a plains region, you can expect a mild, semi-arid climate with average highs in the 80s in the summer and in the 30s in the winter. The average lows in this area are in the 40s and 50s in the summer and in the teens in the winter. Average snowfall at lower elevation is around 60 inches per year, and average rainfall is approximately 17 inches. Weather conditions will change drastically as your elevation changes.

How to Get There

You have a few options for accessing all that there is to see and do in this region of Colorado. You could fly into the Denver International Airport, and you can rent a car to travel the rest of the way on your own. If you are driving a rental car or your own car, you simply take Interstate 70 west until you reach the region. There are also smaller regional airports in some of the major towns in the area, such as in Glenwood Springs.
